Jaunted: Universal Studios Orlando must be making a lot of cash with all that new Harry Potter stuff. They’ve reported a boost in attendance, an increase in ticket prices, and they’re already thinking about sending the wizarding world elsewhere around the globe. Now there’s news that another fantasy world could be joining Harry at the park.

The rumors floating around say that park officials are considering adding the creatures of Middle-earth with a “Lord of the Rings”-themed Island of Adventure. There hasn’t been any official announcement just yet, but online surveys have been asking guests how they field about JRR Tolkien’s world filled with wizards and warlocks.

Don’t hold off on visiting the theme park in anticipation of Frodo and friends, as this rumor has been kicking around for several years. However, it seems that Universal is a little more interested in what visitors think of the fantasy series now more than ever. The online survey also asks questions about Avatar, Twilight, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy; however, the most detailed questions are all about Lord of the Rings…

Peninsula Daily News: Twilight Tours, a book about touring Forks and the West End inspired by the teen novel series, has been selected as part of the Washington state Summer Reads Program for this year.

Not to be outdone, Twilight itself is part of the Fall Summer Reads Program for the year.

Twilight Tours shows off the locations made famous by the saga of books set in Forks and LaPush.

Many of the photos in the book were taken by Forks Chamber of Commerce Office Manager Mike Gurling.

“I also assisted the author in reviewing the manuscript to ensure accuracy of content, and the Forks Chamber of Commerce is acknowledged for efforts in this publication,” Gurling said.

“This is the only book in the Summer Reads program that highlights the town of Forks and the Olympic Peninsula.

“The book has become a big seller to Twilight fans wherever books are sold, and it has been reviewed positively by a number of readers.”

In Port Angeles’ two downtown bookstores — Port Book and News and Odyssey — about 550 copies of the book have been sold…

So far this year 55,000 people have signed in at the Forks Visitor Center, Gurling said.

That compares with 45,000 at the same time last year, he said.

In July alone, 16,550 registered, he said.

“We recently did a study to determine how many visitors were not signing the register. In one two-hour period, we had someone count every person who walked in the door,” Gurling said.

“He counted 354 individuals. Of that number, only 186 visitors actually signed the register.”

A similar effort this summer yielded 98 people who came through the visitor center door who didn’t sign the register.

“This proves what we have known all along in that our numbers are conservative,” Gurling said.

“However, they do indicate the trend of those that come to Forks — although we are also aware that not everyone that comes to Forks comes to the visitor center.”

Shockya: NECA sent us photos of the official Eclipse action figures featuring Victoria, Edward and a shirtless Jacob Black from the film “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” aka Eclipse starring Robert Pattinson (Bel Ami, Water for Elephants, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn), Kristen Stewart (Adventureland, The Runaways), Taylor Lautner, (My Own Worst Enemy) and Xavier Samuel (Road Train, The Loved Ones).

Caldwells Patch: Vampires were sighted in West Caldwell Saturday night.

They weren’t of the pale-faced, cape-wearing Dracula variety, and they weren’t from Transylvania, but rather Las Vegas, by way of Parsippany.

A troupe of five aspiring actors and actresses, representing characters from the popular “Twilight” movie series, visited Vitella’s Cucina.

They were in full character, stage makeup and most were wearing special gold contact lenses for an extra spooky Goth effect. Camera flashes were constantly alight as diners of all ages posed with the group.

The Nevada-based dopplegangers—varying in ages from 20 to 24—have been busy hosting Creation Entertainment’s Twilight Convention at the Hilton Parsippany hotel.

The three-day event began on Friday, and after a long second day, they wanted not to drink blood, but to suck down some of the restaurant’s cuisine—and take their gold contact lenses out.

“Ahhh … ” Hannah Hindi sighed with relief, after posing for pictures. She was in full “Alice” mode, and she was ready for a break—the contacts apparently get a little uncomfortable after the 10th hour…

The “Twilight” gang enjoyed their dinner together and the immense attention from some diners.

“This is our 16th convention,” Hilly Hindi said as she ate a slice of pizza, taking a break from playing “Bella Swan.”

Hilly and her older sister Hannah started “The Hillywood Show,” a website featuring their own video spoofs of popular and not-so-popular movies.

TNS Note: This is a video for the Christian rock band that played in a war zone for troops, and those who chose not to go were locked down for the night. And they were bummed. And everyone in the world heard about it later. Anyway, here’s the video:

Sunday Times: Eclipse is running in a cinema near us and my 15 year old brother refuses to go. My fifty + father (whose role in this tale, somewhat incongruously, is that of a real twi-hard) is losing the argument, which is quite simply: “I’m going to drop five social levels at school if the boys ever find out, besides I really, really don’t want to watch it, also its a chick flick.” I’ve already watched the movie, and were it not for a certain gorgeous werewolf and a few minutes of Dakota time, I think I might have caved at the intermission.

Even so, the long awaited proposal scene nearly did me in. As you can imagine, my father is disappointed in his progeny – even though I’ve read the first two books (skipping to the end of the fourth for laughs) and watched the movies, it’s because I love to hate the twilight series, call it informed loathing if you will.

A friend once pointed out, and I quote him loosely, that Meyers has taken centuries of vampire lore and put a stake through its heart. For instance, instead of bursting into flames in the sunlight like the more respected members of their breed, Meyers’ vampires sparkle.

Ugh. This, of course, has a great deal to do with Meyers being a pious Mormon who famously steers clear of coffee and Dracula films. While Edward cannot hold a candle to Vlad the Impaler, I’ll admit the latter’s box office draw might be limited to the crowd that watched Saw. Edward on the other hand, seems to present an irresistible attraction to a disconcertingly large group of viewers. Case in point, my father.

Pretty much from the moment that the first movie came out, I knew that there were Twilight moms.

But I’m discovering that the men are far from immune, even if they’re bit late to the game…

TNS Note: We would agree that, yes, men enjoy Twilight, too. “Truth is sweet wherever you hear it.”

The Telegraph: As 29-year-old Piyali Sanyal sat reading the lines, she began to grin. She could feel the romance coming. “Just as I passed, he went rigid in his seat. He stared at me again, meeting my eyes with the strangest expression on his face — it was hostile, furious. I looked away quickly, shocked, going red again.”

Then Piyali forwarded the link of the book, one of the Twilight series, to her friends with a note attached — “check this out, good read”.

“I was so hooked to the book that I would read even if I had a five-ten minute break at work. I just couldn’t stay away. I was extremely surprised because I’m not really into mushy romances, but here I was, reacting like a giggly teenager to Edward,” she recalls.

When Edward’s and Bella’s eyes lock, the world and its aunt are riveted to the love story between a human and a vampire, with the werewolf Jacob providing an interesting third angle. Marketed as a story for teenagers, the series is often as big a hit with the moms and elder sisters…

E!: Here are some peeks of the gated abode with a guest house, and no we did not take them. (They were on the original listing from earlier this summer.)

The listing boasted how perfect the “one kind of hideaway” is for those desiring “privacy and serenity,” but unfortunately, that’s not exactly the case…

In order to satisfy your curiosity, and so you to keep your distance, below are a few more shots that were featured on the listing (so don’t give us s–t about it; they’re public photos, people).

TNS Note: The interesting thing about this article is not the realty photos of a home that some actors may or may not have rented, it’s the defensiveness of E! over publishing them. Apparently, the fans have decided that illegal stalking of people, actors or not, is inappropriate, and are letting their feelings be heard. Awesome.

Wall Street Journal: “It isn’t fair.”

I’d be willing to bet that somewhere, some kid is uttering those words at this very moment. And most likely the outburst was triggered by sibling rivalry.

Amy and I got a taste of it (hardly our first) a while back when we took our 13-year-old son to see the latest installment of the “Twilight” movie saga. He has read all the books and seen the first two movies, so we’ve been promising we would take him as soon as we could.

Our 7-year-old daughter stayed with her grandmother, Amy’s mom. We knew various scenes in the movie — as well as the dark, overarching theme of vampires and werewolves — would simply be too scary for her.

So we arranged for her and her grandmother to have dinner at a restaurant our daughter likes. That way everyone would be happy.

Or so we thought.

Amy and I would soon find out that this script would not include a happy ending. Nothing unusual there, as any parent can attest. But it also got me thinking. As a parent, how do you balance your kids’ need for “fairness” when ages and interests are separated by a wide span of years? And what is “fair,” anyway?

As Amy, our son and I drove to the theater that night, Amy’s cellphone rang.

“Mom, it’s me. You and Dad are not being fair….”

Our daughter went on to complain that her brother “gets to go to way more movies” with Mom and Dad than she does, and “I don’t think you’re supposed to do it that way.”

TNS Note: I know this has been out for a while, but has been picked up recently in various news stories:

Many sources, including Fanbolt: ‘Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ director David Slade and ‘Red’ director Robert Schwentke have been approved by 20th Century Fox to direct ‘Wolverine 2’. Star Hugh Jackman will have final say on which of the two will direct. He is meeting with both next week. Slade is believed to be the slight favorite.

The story for Wolverine 2 revolves around Logan beginning a “forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man.” This leads to Logan battling her father, a Yakuza crime boss and mutant, and her brother, a samurai-sword fighter. The movie will also likely involve Logan’s daughter, Mariko Yashida.

Perez Hilton: Even though publishers and book sellers are seeing a decline in hard cover sells, e-books show a promising increase in the world of authors as well as highly popular franchises like Twilight and Harry Potter.

The top ten money-maker$ [for 2009] are:

1. James Patterson ($70M)
2. Stephenie Meyer ($40M)
3. Stephen King ($34M)
4. Danielle Steel ($32M)
5. Ken Follett ($20M)
6. Dean Koontz ($18M)
7. Janet Evanovich ($16M)
8. John Grisham ($15M)
9. Nicholas Sparks ($14M)
10. J. K. Rowling ($10M)

Sugarscape: Kristen Stewart’s a fan of keeping things natural, as is her The Runaways co-star Dakota Fanning. But Twilight girl Nikki Reed isn’t ready to ditch the tan just yet, leaving those pictured beside her looking a little pasty to say the least…

Kristen Stewart has always embraced her natural colouring…

Just like her friend and co-star Dakota Fanning who keeps her look sweet and innocent by avoiding the fake tan.

TNS Note: Kellan’s relationship with his mother has given us pause here at TNS before. On-going coverage of this story, however, seems on target. If only mothers of other Twilight stars would join in… You would think that concern for their own complexions would be enough to quit.

TVNZ: Kellan Lutz’s mother has begged him to give up smoking.

The 25-year-old actor, who is best known for portraying Emmett Cullen in the Twilight Saga, had to field an angry call from his concerned parent after he was pictured lighting up a cigarette.

“You’re a role model for young people. You can’t be smoking those filthy things!” she allegedly told the hunk.

Seattle P-I: After analyzing top-grossing rom-coms from first kisses to dramatic declarations of devotion, psychologists at Heriott-Watt University concluded that they can wreak havoc on real-life romances. The reason: their misleading relationship rules and ideals.

It all fits in with Hollywood’s evil plan — or what seems like an evil plan. Get the ticket-buying masses high on Hollywood fairytale love. Then, when real-world amours fail to deliver equal euphoria, they’ll have to head back to the theater for their cinematic crack. You know romantic movies aren’t realistic, you say? Well, review what’s on your checklist when you’re looking for love. You might spy at least one of these myths.

1. Soul Mate Searching
Twilight’s Bella barely blinks before declaring hunky vamp Edward is the only one for her (woeful werewolf Jacob’s no substitute). Like Romeo and Juliet, neither can exist without the other, as their recklessness in New Moon or their eagerness to die for each other in Eclipse clearly indicate… Yet what’s wrong with waiting for your one and only? These films encourage bad dating habits — like nitpicking perfectly compatible people out of your life.

TNS Note: Psychologists like these do NOT understand literature, film, or the arts. These aren’t literal handbooks, but stories often reveal true patterns — true principles — that can be applied to a successful life.

No one is copying Bella by jumping off a cliff over their boyfriend, just as no one in the history of the world has copied Juliet either. Books and film show boys doing crazy things all the time (“Vader. You must confront Vader.”) and no one cares; it’s just a story… but have a girl do something adventurous and the world comes unglued.

Especially the very people who claim to understand women’s issues the most.

Looking for “the one” can mislead the unthinking into foolish dating practices. But in the end, if you marry, you will marry ONE person. THE one. Hence the need to explore, in a safe environment (i.e., story), the principles behind making that choice.

TNS Note: The Lexicon’s story continues to be covered by many sources. So in case you missed it before:

Clevver: 1) There is only one casting director working on THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN films right now – Deborah Zane. As of right now no local auditions are being held. If Deborah’s name is not attached to it in some form or another, it is not legitimate. She is also not putting out nationwide casting notices. Once again – as was the case with NEW MOON and ECLIPSE – any ads you see are completely false. She has set up an e-mail address specifically for casting inquiries (BreakingDawnCast@gmail.com).

2) Lexicon touched base regarding a rumor about Renesmee’s name changing in BREAKING DAWN. It is FALSE.

3) Twi Examiner asked about Riley’s appearance in BREAKING DAWN because it was listed on Xavier’s IMDb page. Riley will not appear in the BREAKING DAWN films. It is a rumor.

4) Also not confirmed is anything you have heard about the US release date of the ECLIPSE DVD. We have not announced it yet, so unless it is international and confirmed by an international distributor, it is a rumor.

Entertainment Biz: 1. Handsomeness: The mesmerizing blood drinker, the arresting Greek God, Robert Pattinson is the name of this handsome divinely sculpted human whose lightning bolt looks has electrified the entire herd of female devotees…

2. Style: He is carefree, laidback and nonchalant. His unkempt looks and uncombed tresses not only saves his time but also provides him the cucumber cool look that’s responsible for the deaths of zillions of female preys easily falling to the charms of his hypnotic style…

3. Nature: Besides being possessed with the peerless handsome features, he is also pretty lovable and amiable natured. His sense of humour speaks volumes for his presence of mind and his electric smile can always be found playing on his luscious lips. Decent, well-behaved, cultured and charming, he is every bit a gentleman from the 18th century…

Ultimate Woodlands: Tamina resident Rita Wiltz never misses a chance to spread the word. The printed word, that is.

Wiltz is the founder of Children’s Books On Wheels.

“We have a big red truck that I drive around, we even call it Big Red,” Wiltz said. “When we go places, people see it and ask us for books. There is always an opportunity to give a child a book.”

Wiltz estimates she has given away more than 5,000 books since the organization became a nonprofit in 2005.

“When your main necessities are food and medicine and a roof over your head, you don’t go out and buy books,” Wiltz said.

CBOW provides books for low-income students ranging in age from kindergarten to seniors. The books are handed out during events, or at fairs, community centers, apartment complexes, church, and after school programs.

“When you want to escape from where you are, you read a book,” Ritz said. “Books take you places. Books help you imagine things.

“Books also connect families together. I would read to my kids. My mom read to us when we were little. Not a lot, but she did, and I remember those precious moments.”

Wiltz has also read to her niece, 15-year-old Camari Butler.

“I remember she picked out a book for me, it had to do with dogs,” Butler said. “Next thing you know, I’m in love with books am looking for more and more and more.”

Butler, a ninth-grader at Oak Ridge High School, has read the entire Nancy Drew Series and is working through the popular Twilight series.

CELEBUZZ: What do you [Kevin Smith] think about Twilight?

Smith: I’ve said it before. I find it as impenetrable as an Israeli film. I don’t understand the politics of that region. Mercifully, [my] kid kind of understands it, so we went for her benefit. She was there sitting next to me, and she explained a few things and concepts that were completely foreign to me. For example, like a girl fighting over you. I didn’t understand that plot point at all.

Hollywood Life: Luckily for these super studs, the ladies they’ve smooched are kissing and telling – and their feedback is all positive! Find out which gorgeous guys are the greatest at playing tonsil hockey…

ROBERT PATTINSON, 24. Rob’s Bel Ami co-star Christina Ricci says, “He’s a sweet guy and super funny… and a really good kisser.”

TAYLOR LAUTNER, 18. The Twilight hunk’s one-time GF and Valentine’s Day co-star Taylor Swift fessed up to Ellen DeGeneres, “Yeah, he is [a good kisser].”
