Our second episode of the new Twilight News Site Podcast is now available!
In our second episode, James talks with John Granger and Elizabeth Baird Hardy.
Elizabeth is author of “Milton, Spenser and the Chronicles of Narnia: Literary Sources for the C.S. Lewis Novels” (McFarland 2007). Elizabeth is also a senior instructor of English at Mayland Community College where she was selected as the 2006 Outstanding Faculty member and where she has had great success using the Twilight Saga with her students and in literary discussions. Hardy is also a frequent collaborator with her husband, award-winning author and historian Michael C. Hardy. When they and their two children aren’t donning multiple layers of clothing to serve as historic interpreters from Jasper’s time period, they live on a foggy mountainside in the same corner of Appalachia Emmett once called home.

And here’s your vocabulary guide for this podcast:
- Apotheosis: Refers to when “an individual has been raised to godlike stature.”
- Unreliable Narrator: An imaginary storyteller or character who describes what he witnesses accurately, but misinterpets those events because of faulty perception, personal bias, or limited understanding. Often the writer or poet creating such an unreliable narrator leaves clues so that readers will perceive the unreliablity and question the interpretations offered. (Source)
In the first episode, we talk with two masters of understanding and appreciating Stephenie Meyer and Twilight:
John Granger, author of Spotlight: A Close-Up Look at the Artistry and Meaning of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga. John is the author of numerous books on the Harry Potter series, and his personal blog is available at HogwartsProfessor.com.
Steve Walker — the Brigham Young University professor who Stephenie Meyer credits most with helping her career as an author. Steve shares with us his response to Stephenie after he read an early copy of Twilight (overnight, in one sitting!) — her first critical review! (A+!)
Together, we discuss — in light of John’s insightful and fascinating book, Spotlight — the meaning and metaphors of the Twilight Saga, the problems the Twilight Saga faces with its academic critics, and we discuss the possible influence of Stephenie’s religious beliefs on the story.
It’s an entertaining, enlightening and enjoyable conversation, so please listen or download the Twilight News Site Podcast!

I’m a huge fan of the Twilight series and I just wanted to thank your for being so honest about the series. I don’t get why people bash it sometimes but I’ve never had a better reading experience then with these beautiful books.
The show was fun and very entertaining I hope you do more.
Thanks again !
